ABOUT THE PROJECT

What This Project Is

Anti AI Design AI Design Club is a collaborative artwork and ongoing experiment by Los Angeles contemporary artist J. Colombo and ChatGPT. Colombo conceived the project, shaped its artistic direction, and made every creative decision. Through continuing voice conversations, ChatGPT helped translate those ideas into a finished physical product—creating the design, preparing and sending the production file to the print shop, managing production communication, ordering the first sample, and building the Shopify website.

Why It Matters

The project asks what authorship and creative control mean when an artist can direct artificial intelligence as both a tool and a collaborator. Colombo has incorporated AI into his physical-art practice for five years—not to replace his imagination, but to execute ideas that once required large technical teams, substantial funding, and long development cycles. Even the project’s media outreach is part of the artwork: ChatGPT researches publications, writes the pitches, and sends them based on Colombo’s direction.

Anti AI Design AI Design Club matters because it makes the human–AI process visible. The work is not simply merchandise about artificial intelligence. It is a live demonstration of an artist using conversation to move an idea from imagination to design, manufacturing, commerce, and public discussion.
